Overview

IMS Ghaziabad which started in 1990 is a flagship institute of IMS Society Ghaziabad and one of the oldest B School in North India. It was started by some creative thinkers to impart value-based education in a thought-provoking environment, favorable for the overall advancement of the students. Ever since its onset, the group has promoted entrepreneurship, new ideas and technological innovations among its students to make them the future leaders of the professional world. Campus 2 of IMS Ghaziabad group was the second major expansion of the IMS group for upgrading their academic courses. The campus has already built structures and required a boarding based modern buildings for new academic streams.

Concept

IMS Group’s Campus 2 is an example of a compact and efficient urban campus planning. It is a mix of new and old building structures using modular connection system that allows the owners to redistribute capacities as per the semester needs giving a lot of flexibility. Placed in an urban environment of National Capital Region, it is a fully residential campus handling a large number of students from multiple disciplines.

Design

The design had to handle eight blocks with two existing refurbished structures. The campus was planned in such a manner to incorporate grand entrances of open spaces to the buildings. However there as a larger zone.in the middle of the campus and beyond the same the hostels were constructed. The hostels were equipped with all modern facilities. They have a central dining area with the common room at the second level. Both the sides were holding the hostel blocks with 2 / 3 seater rooms and the common toilets. The academic building comprised of classroom function, laboratories, shared functions, auditorium, library, etc.

A very key element of the entire space was to perceive the role of light. Natural light used to penetrate through the atrium in the academic buildings while for the hostel buildings it was through the walls. So even if the corridors were heavily loaded but as they were fused with ample ventilation and lighting, it created a sense of openness to the entire buildings. This all put together enhanced the horizon of learning and development of the students.
